Psychological & Educational Assessment

What is psychological assessment?

Psychological assessment may serve as a first step in getting treatment for an emotional, behavioral, or academic concern. CBH uses tests that have been standardized for use with school-aged children, adolescents, and adults. These valid and reliable measures assess a wide range of issues including intelligence and academic achievement; social, emotional, and behavioral functioning; personality; and cognition and memory. CBH is also able to provide diagnostic evaluations for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and specific learning disorders.

What to expect?

Psychological assessment begins with a clinical interview that focuses on current concerns and client history, including developmental history, academic and occupational functioning, medical and mental health history, drug and alcohol use, and social and behavioral functioning. From there, clients complete an individualized battery of tests, including clinician-administered instruments as well as self-report checklists. For children and adolescents, we also complete a parent interview. Comprehensive assessments may be completed in one session or several sessions, based on the needs of the client.
